First-Year Registration and Orientation, January 2020
In this Section

We're happy you will be joining us this spring! Your next step is to attend January Registration and Orientation on Friday, January 24:

  • Orientation is a required program which includes class registration, meeting your first-year advisor, getting your Stout BlueCard and laptop, and connecting with other UW-Stout students.

  • Parents/guardians are welcome, but not required, to attend. January orientation is a half-day program running from 8:00 AM-1:00 PM in the Memorial Student Center.

Before attending First-Year Registration and Orientation please complete the following steps:

Step 1) Activate your UW-Stout e-mail account

  • Go to https://password.uwstout.edu/activate.aspx to activate your UW-Stout e-mail. You will need your campus ID number.

  • After successfully setting your password, you will be directed to activate your UW-Stout e-mail account.

  • Your e-mail username and password are used for all UW-Stout login functions. Please activate them prior to attending First-Year Registration and Orientation.

Step 2) Register to attend First-Year Registration and Orientation

  • Once accepted to UW-Stout you will receive an invitation mid-November via your Stout e-mail to attend orientation.

  • If you have additional questions or concerns please contact us at orientation@uwstout.edu

Step 3) Take the University of Wisconsin Placement Tests in English and Mathematics

  • All first year students are required to either take the Wisconsin English and Math Placement Tests or have college credit in English and Math.

  • If you have college credit in any of the following English courses, you do not need to take the English Placement Tests: ENGL 090; 101; 111.

  • If you have college credit in Math, it may not be adequate preparation for the major you are entering; contact the Advisement Center at advisement.testing@uwstout.edu to determine whether you need to take the Math Placement Test.

  • If you plan to take a world language course while attending UW-Stout, you will need to take the World Languages Placement Test. World Languages Placement Tests are offered in French, German, and Spanish.

  • If you have further questions regarding placement testing or would like to schedule a time to take a test contact the Advisement Center via e-mail at advisement.testing@uwstout.edu
