In this Section

Please complete the following steps:

Step 1) Register to attend First-Year Registration and Orientation

  • Communication about First-Year Registration and Orientation will be sent to your personal e-mail starting in early March. If you do not receive it, let us know by e-mail at orientation@uwstout.edu.
  • First-Year Registration and Orientation is a required program which includes class registration, meeting your advisor, and connecting with other UW-Stout students.

Step 2) Take the University of Wisconsin Placement Tests in English and Mathematics (if needed)

  • All first year students are required to either take the Wisconsin Regional English and Math Placement Tests or have college credit in English and Math.

  • Students who have already taken the Wisconsin Placement Tests do not need to take them again.

  • If you have college credit in any of the following English courses, you do not need to take the English Placement Tests: ENGL 090; 101; 111; 112.

  • If you have college credit in Math, it may not be adequate preparation for the major you are entering; contact the Advisement Center to determine whether you need to take the Math Placement Test.

  • If you plan to take Spanish while attending UW-Stout you will need to take the Spanish Foreign Language Placement Test.

  • More information regarding placement testing will be sent to your personal e-mail in early February.

Step 3) Activate your UW-Stout e-mail account

  • Go to https://password.uwstout.edu to set your e-mail password. You will need your student ID number.

  • After successfully setting your password, you will be directed to activate your UW-Stout e-mail account.

  • Your e-mail username and password are used for all UW-Stout login functions. Please activate them prior to attending First-Year Registration and Orientation.
